Rationale: Reviews are cited on average three times as often as standard papers; they enhance your international reputation and that of your institution; they increase your impact; they help with grant applications; and they are a good way of mastering the literature in your field.

About the workshop:  The review workshop aims to assist the participants to write and publish a review in their own field, either individually or in small groups. The examples used will mostly be from ecology and conservation biology. The course will consist of on-line lectures, discussions, and one-to-one consultation until the review is published.

Major topics: Why write reviews? Types of review; reviews vs. perspectives; Choosing a topic; Choosing a journal; Writing a proposal and getting invited; Searching the literature; Screening for relevance and quality; Extracting information; Writing the review.

Requirements for applicants:  The workshop is targeted at early- and mid-career scientists from the three CAS Core Gardens (South China Botanical Garden, Wuhan Botanical Garden, and Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden) with a successful record of publishing scientific papers in international journals who want to write a review, perspective, or similar article.

Instructor: Professor Richard Corlett, Centre for Integrative Conservation of XTBG.

Student number: The first half day will be open to anyone. Participants can then decide if you want to continue or not, but as Professor Corlett can supervise a maximum of 12 final reviews, we may need to do selection based on your review proposal written after the first session.
